Special features of the heating systems

Central heating systems

The rooms to be heated employ a heating unit outside the dwelling. The heat produced there is then supplied to the individual rooms via the interconnection of a heat transfer medium.

Advantages:

  • decrease in the number of heating units and chimneys required
  • less environmental pollution
  • better economy of fuel utilization
  • less time needed for operation

Self-contained heating systems

Each dwelling has a separate boiler with radiators in the individual rooms. The boiler is situated in the kitchen or hall. Heating is via oil or gas.

Advantages:

  • independent heating of the individual dwellings
  • convenient to install
  • simple billing for heating costs

Under-floor heating

With under-floor heating, heat pipes are laid in the floor and connected to central heating that provides hot water.

Advantages:

  • comfortable, as no irritating cool and warm zones as with conventional heating
  • economical, hence cost savings
  • aesthetically superior, as no compromises due to radiators

Wall heating

Wall heating consists of heat pipes laid in the external walls.

Advantages:

  • smaller ventilation and heat losses
  • shortest heating-up times
  • ideal for space cooling
  • easy assembly and maintenance

Individual heating

Heat generation takes place directly in the areas to be heated.
Newer stoves also have tubing systems or double walls for connection to in-house hot water heating. Thus, other areas can also be heated via the central heating.

Advantages:

  • suitable as secondary heating in the transition period
  • comfortable warmth
  • heating with biomass possible (wood, straw, grass, bark)

Heat recovery systems

Heat recovery is a procedure for the reuse of thermal energy via a process of escaping mass flow.
It takes place via heat exchangers and heat pumps.

Advantages:

  • enormous reduction in CO2
  • favourable operating costs
  • environmentally friendly

Solar technology

Solar technology is the utilization of the sun's rays by means of technical aids and mechanisms, e.g. solar heat collectors or solar cells.

Advantages:

  • solar energy is free
  • profitable, economical
  • no environmentally harmful materials released
  • safe, practical, easy to install and durable
  • financially assisted

Thermo active building systems

Thermo active building system (also called concrete core activation) is a term from air conditioning technology designating systems which use the building's mass for temperature regulation. These systems are used for general or supplemental room heating and/or cooling. Piping is laid in solid ceilings and walls.
